"You just let them be themselves and make games. That's what they are and when it's about solving the problem, guys in that locker room, you'll love playing with them."
Mayfield was at brewers spring training camp because he's friends with the fielder Christian Yelich. His comments are the first since the Browns' acquisition of Beckham and their defensive end. Olivier Vernon in separate exchanges with the giants earlier in the week.
The attitude of Mayfield is his motto since he joined the Browns and that's one of the reasons he set a rookie record with 27 touchdowns in 2017. His comments came in response to a question about Beckham and Landry being great personalities, and with them maybe he should just let it rip.
"I know of Saquon (Barkley) and Sterling Shepherd (Giants), with whom I am very close, I know exactly who is OBJ in the locker room and who he is for his teammates," said Mayfield. "It's the most important thing people can have their attitude and their point of view on it, but he is himself and he also has the back of his teammates."
Mayfield described the Browns' potential as exciting, and said the team's offensive "will be one thing where you pick your poison", given the talent available, which also includes Nick Chubb and will understand Kareem Hunt after serving his eight-game suspension.
"It's an exciting time in Cleveland, absolutely," said Mayfield. "After a good year, the fans here did not really make us happy (7-8-1) and they were incredibly happy, but now I can not even imagine." I'm not back yet, so going back there will be really exciting. "
