StaTuesday: Ryan Donato of Wild in the act

After spending a month in the miners, Ryan Donato gets a hit with the Minnesota Wild.

Acquired in an exchange with the Boston Bruins a few days before the deadline, Donato seemed to have fallen out of favor in Boston, where he had made his impressive professional debut less than a year ago.

However, it seems that head coach Bruce Boudreau et al. would like to see exactly what they have to Donato, the former Harvard star who made the headlines at the last Olympic Games.

At 22, he has been a regular at the Wild and has been on special teams in three games since trading, skating at 47:46 and 6:04 on the power play.

With reason.

The test report on Donato has long been relatively simple: he's pulling the puck. A lot.

Donato dominated the country with 6.03 shots per goal in his last season at Harvard. He was among the best shooters of the US team at PyeongChang in 2018 with 15 shots on goal in five games.

Until then, he had a green light in Minnesota.

Donato leads the Wild with 20 shot attempts in all situations since trading and ranks second with 17 shot attempts of equal strength, behind only Jason Zucker.

The damage so far: one goal, three assists, a plus-3 and an overtime win over the St. Louis Blues.

Minnesota are currently in 17th place with 31.7 shots per game per game this season, and in 19th place with 30.8 shots per game in the past three seasons.

Donato has not cut those numbers yet, but it's a start.
